Getting Started With iAssist

System Requirements

iAssist will normally be run on 2 or more computers. One is the "iAssist" computer, the others are servers. Both the iAssist computer and the server(s) it controls must be running Mac OS X 10.2 ("Jaguar") or above. The iAssist client can be run on the server, if you choose.

iAssist also requires connectivity to the Internet, in order to download the "modules" that perform all server configuration and actions.

As in any server environment, a dedicated IP address is highly recommended for any server you wish to manage with iAssist.

Installing iAssist

There are two major components of iAssist, the iAssist client application and iAServerDaemon. The client application is what you will normally work in, and is what we refer to as iAssist. The iAServerDaemon is installed on any Mac OS X computer(s) you wish to be able to configure and use as an Internet server.

In other words, iAssist runs on your desktop, and iAServerDaemon runs on your server(s).

To install iAssist, follow these steps:

  1. Download and extract the iAssist package to your desktop Mac OS X computer.

  2. Copy the file "iAServerInstaller" to the server(s) you wish to manage.

  3. Run the iAServerInstaller on each server you wish to manage. When prompted, enter your administrative password to enable the installation.

  4. On your desktop computer, launch iAssist. An update will occur, which will complete the iAssist installation. The update time will vary depending on your Internet connection speed.

  5. After the update is complete, the iAssist Setup Assistant will open. Complete the simple input form and click "Proceed".

iAssist is now ready to manage your server(s).
