Proxy Services

iAssist includes a ready-to-run, enhanced version of Squid, the most popular proxy server in use today. iAssist can install and set up the proxy, perform basic configuration, manage user account and other security options, and offers greatly enhanced filtering services.

If you are looking for a way to accelerate Web access for your entire network, track access usage, filter inappropriate content, improve network security, or just control how your network is used, iAssist (with Squid), is the solution you are looking for. Like other iAssist modules, installing the proxy server is done with the press of a button. Basic proxy server configuration is also taken care of, as shown below.

The two primary tasks most administrators use a proxy to accomplish are content caching and filtering. Using the Squid cache is automatic, with configuration options shown in the screen shot above. For content filtering, Maxum has added our "HostBlock" automated content filtering system. This system is easy to manage, accurate and, unlike most content filtering solutions, includes no additional monthly service fee. iAssist automatically recognizes inappropriate Web sites using a content filter (not shown), and maintains lists of "blocked" and "allowed" Web sites that the administrator controls.

Squid also offers the ability to restrict Web access by username and password, essentially allowing you to require your users to "log in" to the Web. With iAssist, its easy to manage the list of user accounts.

iAssist also allows you to review blocked Web accesses, manage proxy log files, and more with a clean, consistent graphical interface. And if you need to make use of Squid features that aren't supported by an iAssist controller, you can always use the iAssist Text File Manager to enable Squid functions directly.
